What is a Birth Doula?
Doula is a word with Greek origins meaning “a woman who serves.”
A birth doula is a professionally trained individual who provides continuous emotional, physical, and informational support throughout pregnancy and birth. Birth doulas offer evidence-based guidance on preparing for labor, comfort measures, understanding birthing options, partner involvement, and advocating for your preferences.
Benefits of a Birth Doula
Doulas help improve birth outcomes by offering steady emotional and physical support throughout labor, which research shows leads to lower cesarean rates, fewer unnecessary interventions, and shorter labors. Their presence helps families communicate more clearly with providers, make informed decisions, and feel more confident throughout the process. This continuous support creates a safer experience and greater overall satisfaction with birth
